How do I find a position and then select text?

Quick Selection

Double tap and hold on any part of the word where you.d like to begin your selection. Then drag your finger, and you.ll see that you are highlighting all the text starting from the word you originally tapped. From here, simply drag your finger to the end of your desired selection and let go.

Precise Selection

Initiate the magnification loupe as you normally would, find the spot where you.d like to begin your selection and then let go. Now quickly tap and hold again, on the same area and you will start selecting automatically at the starting point you just chose. From here, drag your finger to the end of your desired selection and let go.

What does "tap & hold" mean?

A tap and hold is defined as the user pressing down on the screen and not lifting his finger. A double tap and hold is defined by a user tapping twice quickly on the screen, but not removing his finger after the 2nd tap, leaving it pressed on the screen.

Why do e-mails need a CAPTCHA?

Unfortunately, the iPhone's built in mail application does not support rich text emails. Thus, to allow people to get their rich text notes out of MagicPad, we had to relay them through our own server. The CAPTCHA is there to prevent spammers from using automated tools to send email through our servers. This is similar to how websites like Google Maps work.

If the iPhone's mail app ever becomes able to send rich text, we will shutdown the server because it will not be needed anymore, and there will be no need for a CAPTCHA or an intermediary server.

Why can't I copy & cut text from MagicPad and paste it into other applications?

There are a few reasons that make this impossible, and an application-to-application copy & paste feature could only be employed by Apple.

First, applications are not allowed to run in the background. This means that once the text is copied from MagicPad, leaving the application will close the clipboard. where the text is being held and awaiting pasting.

Second, due to Apple's sandbox effect, we cannot create plug-ins to interact with other applications.

And lastly, we cannot change or modify the functionality of other applications to accommodate our pasting methods.

Why is there no dictionary / auto-correction?

We are in the process of updating the next version of MagicPad to include dictionary / auto-correction capabilities. Unfortunately, Apple does not give us direct access to the dictionary, so we are still working on our solution.

Could this copy & paste functionality be used system wide on the iPhone?

We developed the functionality of MagicPad with the entire iPhone platform in mind.

If you're interested in this sort of thing, like we are, we invite you to take some time and watch our demonstration video. In it, we highlight not only our thought-process behind the copy & paste method we arrived at, but also examples of how it would integrate system wide. It is a work-in progress and we'd love your collaboration.
